What does H2S smell like?

It has a distinct, strong odor of rotten eggs. 

What are the health effects?

Exposure can cause headaches, nausea, vomiting, eye irritation, fatigue, and respiratory issues. 

Is it dangerous?

While often below dangerous levels, it can exceed California’s 30 parts per billion (ppb) 1-hour standard. It is particularly risky for people with asthma or respiratory conditions. 

When is the smell worst?

The smell is usually most intense during the summer months (August/September).
