College and Career Readiness Series | Part 1

August 18, 2025 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Fifteen eligible youth (1&2 or 3&4) who are currently enrolled in 9th to 12th Grade will be invited to participate in Thermal FPS Youth Department’s College and Career Readiness Series | Part 1. The multi-session event will only be offered via Zoom platform and will be held on Monday(s): August 18 and September 15, 2025.

This is part 1 or a 4 part series that will focus on preparing high school students for College and Career Readiness. This will be accomplished by students participating in activities that help them identify what profession they would like to pursue and how to achieve that goal. This includes completing an Aptitude test to help students identify their strengths and abilities to help match career options. In addition, colleges will be explored to help students learn which school will help meet their overall career goals. For our High school senior participants, they will also be able to list their top 5 colleges they would like to apply to this coming fall 2025, based on the career path they choose to follow. Resources will be provided to participants to help them identify why they chose their top 5 schools including program, location and cost to attend the college/university. For students who may be interested in pursuing other career paths; they will also be able to list in order (most interested to least interested) the other career path they may want to pursue which includes enrolling in a Trade school, considering joining the Military service or enter the workforce. Based on student interests, they will learn the requirements needed to pursue those career options and the potential salary they are able to earn from each path they choose.

In this first part of the series, Youth will also learn how to apply for the FAFSA Application. This includes learning what is required to complete the application and when they will be able to begin to apply online. In addition to learning about the FAFSA application, students will also learn of various scholarship opportunities and deadlines when to apply.
