DESCRIPTION:Let’s Protect our self \n  \nYoung children are naturally curious and may not fully understand the potential risks associated with strangers\, this is called vulnerability. Developing safety skills recognizing potentially unsafe situations\, and knowing how to say no and seeking help if needed can help them build confidence in potentially dangerous situations. We will watch a Youtube video called: A friendly stranger and Bella meets a stranger. We will then discuss what’s on the video. These videos are geared to help youth visualize what a potentially dangerous situation can look like. \n  \nSign up Here!

SUMMARY:Read-A-Book- La Quinta Library
DESCRIPTION:10 eligible youth will be invited to sign-up for the READ-A-BOOK event. This event is recommended for students (1st to 5th grade). By going to the library with children when they’re young we can make sure they develop a sense that reading is a natural thing for people to do. When children learn from an early age that reading is an essential part of life\, they develop habits that make the decision to continue reading that much easier. Forming these habits early can be one of the most important factors in gaining early access to literacy skills. Opening a child’s eyes to innumerable reading options available can change the way they approach books. Connecting children with the library early teaches them that they have access to valuable resources beyond traditional paper pages. The importance of reading for kids has never been more apparent and teaching kids to love reading is integral to any strong educational program. Reading early develops strong habits that will likely carry over to a lifetime of benefits. \n  \nSign up Here!
