Building & Safety Program
Plan Check or Engineering Review
After the planning review the application is forwarded to Building and Safety for engineering review (plan check) to ensure the proposed onsite structures and utilities meet basic building, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical codes.
Issuing Permits
Building Permits
Permits are required before any building or structure is erected, constructed, enlarged, altered, moved, repaired (major), improved, converted, or demolished. This includes decks, patios, sheds over 100 square feet, fences, over six feet, and retaining walls over four feet, measured from the bottom of the footing to the top of the wall.
Once final plans are approved, the Building and Safety office issues a permit.
Inspections
Before a structure can be occupied, it must pass all inspections by the Tribal inspector and a certificate of occupancy is issued. The electrical company also must receive authorization before power can be turned on.
Safety
Planning and building and safety staff ensure basic health and safety codes are followed for the safety of all people on the Reservation.
