Under the direction of the Cultural Preservation Coordinator, assist in the exposure of clients to Native American culture, traditions, identities, and heritage; conduct immersive instruction of the Cahuilla language to clients; conduct cultural research to better implement educational programs and at the client’s request. Successful candidate must have knowledge of Cahuilla oral and written language; Indian community lifestyle; General educational programs, services and procedures related to Tribal traditions and culture; Practices, procedures and techniques involved in the planning and implementation of cultural classes and learning activities; Practices, procedures and techniques involved in the collection and preparation of cultural materials; Instructional techniques and strategies related to cultural classes; Native American culture, history, traditions, and identities; Cultural sensitivity; Oral and written communication skills; Principles and practices of supervision and training; Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Must have the ability to Coordinate, develop, implement and oversee cultural program operations including various educational classes and activities related to Native American tradition and culture; Research, collect, compile, assemble and prepare cultural materials for classes and activities; Develop and arrange calendars and schedules for Rediscovery events, classes and activities; Prepare, arrange and set up facilities, equipment and supplies for classes; Serve as a liaison and coordinate communications and information related to cultural classes, events and activities between personnel, other departments, outside agencies, students and the public; Develop, implement, and lead and assist clients during learning activities and projects related to various cultural subjects; Communicate effectively both orally and in writing, including some public speaking; Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others; Operate a computer and assigned office equipment; Work with people from diverse cultures, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds and must always maintain cultural sensitivity.

This position requires driving in performance of duties and therefore requires possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability under the Tribe’s auto insurance policy throughout employment.

This position has duties and responsibilities that require regular contact with or control over Indian children and is therefore subject to the background investigative process to comply with

Education/Experience and Requirements: Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma and one year educational experience.
